What to expect?
Duration: Approx. 6–7 hours (including breaks and lunch at the hut) Group size: minimum 2 - maximum 6 participants Distance: Approx. 10–12 km (loop hike) Elevation gain: Approx. 900–1,000 m Highest point: Mount Stol – 2,236 m Our hike to Mount Stol (2,236 m), the highest peak of the Karavanke, begins at Valvasorjev dom on the southern slope of the mountain. From the hut, we follow a marked trail that gradually climbs through forest before opening onto wide alpine slopes. Reaching the summit of Stol, we are rewarded with outstanding 360° views stretching from Triglav and the Julian Alps to the valleys of Carinthia on the Austrian side. After enjoying the summit, we descend to Prešernova koča, the mountain hut located just below the peak, where we take a well-deserved lunch break in a relaxed alpine setting. We complete the tour by returning along a different descent route, giving the hike a varied and more scenic character before arriving back at Valvasorjev dom.
